    Surface Mount '98 This SMCBA turns 10 on July 1, 1998 and Surface Mount '98 will be the tenth Surface Mount Conference. International peakers will include Steve Vandervoort (Intel), Jim Baker (Sun Microsystems), Dr John Lau (Express Packaging Solutions), Ralph Hersey (Ralph Hersey & Assoc), Rick Short (Indium), Lenny Roach (Lucent Technologies) and Peter Biocca (Multicore)

    Inaugural Australasian SMT Academy Set for May

    The SMCBA in association with IHS Publishing (the publishers of SMT Magazine) and with the endorsement of the SMTA have established the Australasian SMT Academy. The first Academy will be held in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland during May and will focus on "Advanced Surface Mount Technology and Assembly". Visiting International experts will include Dr Charles Bauer (Techlead Corporation) and Michael Norris (Speedline). Local presenters will also be involved and a feature will be hands on demonstrations of screen printing.

    NEW DESIGN STANDARDS RELEASED The IPC has released the new IPC-2220 Design Specification series which replace the IPC-D-275. The new series addresses design capabilities made possible by today's technological advancements that were not covered by the IPC-D-275.
